The Sun Hydraulics NFECYEV/AP (NFECYEV/AP) is a versatile needle valve designed for precise flow regulation in hydraulic systems. This fully adjustable orifice device allows for infinite adjustment from a fully closed position to the maximum orifice diameter, making it suitable for use as both a flow control and shutoff valve. The valve is not pressure compensated, meaning the flow is regulated based on the square root of the pressure differential across its ports. It features a balanced adjustment mechanism that facilitates easy adjustments even under high-pressure conditions, and its sharp-edged orifice design helps minimize flow variations due to changes in fluid viscosity. This bidirectional flow control cartridge is interchangeable with other 2-port cartridges of the same frame size, offering flexibility in system design. The preferred flow path is from port 1 to port 2 to maintain interchangeability with other controls. When set to the shutoff position, the valve ensures zero leakage, enhancing system reliability. The NFECYEV/AP model has a capacity of 30 gpm (120 L/min) and can operate at pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar). It requires an installation torque between 150 and 160 lbf ft (203 - 217 Nm) and includes an adjustment screw with an internal hex size of 5/32 inches (4 mm). The valve's locknut has a hex size of 9/16 inches (15 mm) and requires a torque of 80 - 90 lbf in (9 - 10 Nm). Weighing approximately 1.30 lb (0.60 kg), this model is compatible with systems using phosphate ester fluids when equipped with EPDM seals, though exposure to petroleum-based fluids should be avoided to prevent seal damage.

Needle valves are fully adjustable orifices used to regulate flow. They are infinitely adjustable from fully closed up to the maximum orifice diameter. They are not pressure compensated and may be used as flow controls or as shutoff valves.
- All 2-port flow control cartridges are physically and functionally interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size). However, cartridge extension dimensions from the mounting surface may vary.
- Because needle valves are non-compensating devices, the fixed orifice size will regulate flow through the valve in proportion to the square root of the pressure differential across ports 1 and 2.
- A balanced adjustment mechanism allows for easy adjustment even at high pressures.
- The sharp-edged orifice design minimizes flow variations due to viscosity changes.
- The flow path through this valve is bi-directional. The preferred path is port 1 to 2, to allow interchangeability with other flow controls.
- There is no leakage when the adjustment mechanism is turned to the shut-off position.
- Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
