The Sun Hydraulics RDBAFAN (Material Number: RDBAFAN) is a direct-acting relief cartridge valve designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients by limiting pressure rise. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve opens to the tank port when inlet pressure reaches the valve setting, ensuring smooth and quiet operation with essentially zero leakage. It is dirt tolerant, immune to silting, and responds quickly with a typical response time of 2 milliseconds. The valve features interchangeable 2-port relief cartridges, allowing for physical and functional interchangeability within a given frame size. It can handle maximum pressure at port 2, making it suitable for cross port relief circuits and load-holding applications. The RDBAFAN is relatively insensitive to oil temperature variations and contamination, with seals on the adjust screw exposed to system pressure. This requires pressure removal for adjustment. For optimal performance, select a spring range where the desired relief setting falls between midrange and high within the minimum and maximum pressures. The backpressure on tank port 2 adds directly to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. Cartridges with EPDM seals are intended for phosphate ester fluid systems; exposure to petroleum-based fluids can damage these seals. The valve incorporates Sun's floating style construction to minimize internal part binding due to installation torque or machining variations. It has a cavity size of T-162A, series 0 capacity of 12 gpm (45 L/min), maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), and reseat at 85% of setting with maximum leakage at reseat being 10 drops/min (0.7 cc/min).
