The Sun Hydraulics NFCDLFN (NFCDLFN) is a versatile needle valve designed for precise flow regulation in hydraulic systems. This fully adjustable valve functions as an orifice to manage flow, offering infinite adjustability from fully closed to the maximum orifice diameter. It serves dual purposes as both a flow control and a shutoff valve, though it is not pressure compensated. The NFCDLFN model is compatible with all 2-port flow control cartridges, ensuring physical and functional interchangeability within the same frame size. However, note that cartridge extension dimensions may differ from the mounting surface. This needle valve regulates flow proportionally to the square root of the pressure differential between ports 1 and 2 due to its non-compensating nature. It features a balanced adjustment mechanism that facilitates easy adjustments even under high pressures. The sharp-edged orifice design minimizes variations in flow caused by changes in fluid viscosity, ensuring consistent performance. This bidirectional valve prefers the flow path from port 1 to port 2 for compatibility with other flow controls. The NFCDLFN model guarantees zero leakage when fully shut off and comes equipped with EPDM seals suitable for systems using phosphate ester fluids; however, it should not be exposed to petroleum-based fluids which may damage the seals. With a cavity size of T-13A Series 1, this model has a capacity of up to 20 gpm (80 L/min) and can withstand a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). The adjustment mechanism allows for up to 5.5 counterclockwise turns from fully closed to open, providing precise control over fluid flow in demanding applications.

Needle valves are fully adjustable orifices used to regulate flow. They are infinitely adjustable from fully closed up to the maximum orifice diameter. They are not pressure compensated and may be used as flow controls or as shutoff valves.
- All 2-port flow control cartridges are physically and functionally interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size). However, cartridge extension dimensions from the mounting surface may vary.
- Because needle valves are non-compensating devices, the fixed orifice size will regulate flow through the valve in proportion to the square root of the pressure differential across ports 1 and 2.
- A balanced adjustment mechanism allows for easy adjustment even at high pressures.
- The sharp-edged orifice design minimizes flow variations due to viscosity changes.
- The flow path through this valve is bi-directional. The preferred path is port 1 to 2, to allow interchangeability with other flow controls.
- There is no leakage when the adjustment mechanism is turned to the shut-off position.
- Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
