The Sun Hydraulics DCFFXBN (DCFFXBN) is a two-position, 4-way directional cartridge valve featuring a spring-offset, 6-port configuration. This model can be customized with one of nine different spool options, depending on the specific application requirements. It is designed to handle a maximum pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) across all ports, including the x and y pilot ports (ports 5 and 6). The performance characteristics of this valve vary with different spool configurations due to flow forces, which are influenced by both flow rate and pressure drop. Flow forces typically resist opening passages and are most significant in spools that open passages as they return to center. This valve is particularly noted for its robust construction, including a hardened spool and sleeve that ensure low leakage rates and superior wear characteristics. It also incorporates Sun's floating style construction which minimizes internal parts binding caused by excessive installation torque or variations in cavity/cartridge machining. The DCFFXBN has a flow capacity ranging from 50 to 200 gpm (200 to 760 L/min) and requires a minimum pilot pressure of 125 psi (9 bar) to shift the valve. The maximum leakage at operational conditions is rated at 2 in³/min at 1000 psi (30 cc/min at 70 bar). Additional specifications include a pilot volume displacement of .42 in³ (6.9 cc), a hex size for the valve at 1-5/8 inches (41.3 mm), and an installation torque between 350 -375 lbf·ft (474 -508 Nm). The model weighs approximately 3.90 lb (1.75 kg), ensuring it is both sturdy and manageable for various installations. The seal kit for this cartridge uses Viton components, part number: 990064006.

Two-position, 4-way directional cartridges are spring-offset, 6-port directional valves that can be configured from a choice of 9 different spool options. The supply port is port 3 and all ports will accept 5000 psi (350 bar). Capacity for these pilot-to-shift valves is dependent on the spool type specified.
- All ports will accept 5000 psi (350 bar), including the x and y pilot ports (port 5 and port 6).
- The reason for the different capacities, or performance limits, for the different spool configurations are flow forces. Flow forces are proportional to flow and pressure drop. Typically, they resist the opening of a passage. Spool configurations that open passages as they spring center are the most susceptible. If the flow forces due to the flow and pressure conditions exceed the centering spring force the valve may not shift completely. Higher flows may be used at lower pressures.
- Leakage listed in technical data is for each path.
- The pilot ports, 5 and 6, are positively sealed from the work ports.
- Hardened spool and sleeve provide consistent and low spool leakage rates and excellent wear characteristics.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
